Single-Payer Support Monitor
Obama Requirement for:
What Citizens Want
for Health Care Policy
Barack Obama needs to support non-profit single-payer national health insurance.
Select here to learn why (it seems to me) Senator Obama has a requirement
that citizens must fulfill before he will support what citizens want.
Situation: Senator Obama’s 4/3/2007 community meeting
on health care in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
During the meeting the audience pressed him strongly with positive, eloquently-stated comments about non-profit single-payer national health insurance.
According to the [Associated Press], “his audience Tuesday was almost single-mindedly focused on a single-payer system.”
Obama’s Requirement
… as stated to a reporter
- “I have to insist on the voters rallying for this change,” Obama said following the two-and-a-half-hour meeting with local residents. “When I take office, I have to feel I have a mandate for change.”
Obama’s Promise and Recommended Action
… as stated to the audience
- “I don’t want people to lose confidence about the capacity to change how government operates … In a Congressional District if you have a thousand people or a couple of thousand people writing letters I promise you that Congressman or woman pays a lot of attention. They really do. Of course, you’ve got to have a thousand or two thousand people writing letters in every Congressional District or at least in a majority of the Congressional Districts in order to actually implement policy.”
Suggested Uniform Action by Citizens:
Follow the Schedule
- Write notes, send e-mails and/or make a toll-free telephone call, as part of following the Schedule
Why did Obama Specify a Requirement That We Communicate to Our U.S. Representatives About What We Want for a Health Care Policy (single-payer)?
The immense power of the health insurance companies must be overcome with the overwhelming force of thousands of educated constituents communicating to each of the U.S. Representatives, who love to report to the press that very strong input was received from their constituents on a topic and that they responded positively to the input.
That’s why we need to follow the Schedule
Notes about Obama’s Proposal and His Position
Senator Obama’s health care proposal (2007-2008) is NOT for non-profit health insurance. It’s a poor proposal that will make the situation worse.
The following obvious conclusion is based on his recommendation above and his strong position of support in 2003:
Senator Obama is waiting and hoping that we will start communicating, as highlighted above.
He knows that we need single-payer, as clearly seen from his position in 2003. Video (0:50) has an excerpt of his June 30, 2003 speech, during which Obama said: “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world … cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. … Everybody In, Nobody Out. … A single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. That’s what I’d like to see.”
After 4/3/2007… What Happened!
Barack Obama faced educated constituents on 4/3/2007. They did an excellent job of communicating that we want non-profit single-payer national health insurance. Unfortunately, the video of the 4/3/2007 meeting was deliberately removed from being posted at his web site (Barack TV health care videos) just a few weeks after the meeting. So, in this case, he and his campaign hid our public cry for single-payer that was given face-to-face to him! This experience is further emphasis that he means business that a mandate from U.S. citizens is required in order for us to get his support.
