Disease in the Beltway
and its Cure

The Disease

The general area in and around Washington D.C. is often referred to as “the beltway.”

Many politicians in the U.S. Congress are inappropriately influenced by large financial contributions and a constant flow of contacts by those who are opposed to the will of the people indicate in the chart of our support. That opposition is the set of persons and companies who are associated with health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and/or other health-related companies.

Those U.S. politicians have said the words “single-payer is not politically feasible” way too many times. Now their eyes appear to be glazed over. They seem to be in a trance and can’t say, believe or listen to anything else.

Those influenced politicians and their staffs have been sent the facts. They have also been sent hundreds of heart-rendering stories, such as a 141-page booklet in the spring of 2007. However, they are apparently also influenced in the same manner as many citizens who do not yet know the facts. That influence causes their caring attitude to be overwhelmed by a fearful attitude. Thus, the citizens need to know the facts and to send communications to the U.S. Congress and the White House.

The Cure

It’s up to us to help get those many members of the U.S. Congress people out of that trance as part of curing them of the diseased thinking that single-payer is not politically feasible.

We can and will do that, not by just a few of us contacting them one-on-one, but mainly by thousands of us each getting 3 others to participate in a huge monthly flood of communications. We need sufficient numbers of fellow citizens to get the monthly reminders to partipate in the monthly flood of communications. Why? Not simply to influence the members of the U.S. Congress who have acted wrongly from a world point of view. But, most importantly, to have citizens prepared for the important change that we need in our society.
