It is a mixture of roles and functions among many companies and non-profit organizations that help to maximize the complexity and inefficiency. Consider the analogy of a restaurant in your city. That restaurant needs supporting companies that provide food, beverages, dining room equipment, kitchen equipment, and various kinds of supplies. The restaurant may also need supporting functions of services, such as marketing and accounting.
